Environmentally friendly

As a responsible business, Pro-Hosted is always looking for ways to reduce its carbon footprint. The company’s drive for efficiency comes from both a concern for the environment and a straight-forward desire to save money – for itself and its clients.

Pro-Hosted uses five times less energy per Kw of IT load than the average data centre.

Inspired by its on-going drive to increase efficiency reduce its impact on the environment, Pro-Hosted in-house teams carried out extensive research and built an industry-leading fresh air cooling system that requires the use of chillers for only 5% of the year. The modular approach and constant fine tuning have driven the company’s efficiency levels to such a degree that it uses five times less power per Kw than the average data centre. The heat produced by the data centre is used, when required, to heat the main building. It also uses the most efficient UPS systems available to keep losses to a minimum.

Pro-Hosted operates a cold aisle containment system and rack blanking policy, which further increases its efficiency levels. Its green SLA provides for an upper temperature limit of 26° C, a figure which is well within operating tolerances set by all equipment manufacturers and which allows it to avoid using valuable energy to cool the data centre unnecessarily.

In addition to recycling, re-using and reducing its usage, Pro-Hosted is now looking to introduce LED lighting systems and bio-fuel generators.
